Irish Draught Horse Society


Pleasure rides have been arranged to take place as follows:
Sunday 10th September 2017 - at Shanes Castle. First horse out 12.30, last horse at 1.30pm. Fee £15 per person with light lunch served in beaters room afterwards.
Saturday 14th October 2017 - at Watertop Farm leaving 12.30 sharp with optional jumps. Full hunt dress to be worn if possible. Fee £15 per adult and £10 for under 16s with warm lunch served afterwards in the tea room.

Both will be joint rides with Ballycastle Rural Rides. Further details available from Paddy Traynor on 07719 677361


Unfortunately, due to lack of interest, this event has had to be cancelled. It was a decision which was taken with a great deal of reluctance. We would like to thank those who had entered - full refunds of entry fees will be in the post in the next few days.

Preparing Horses for Showing Classes - 19th April 2017

The IDHS in conjuction with CAFRE are running an information evening for those looking to prepare for the coming show season. The evening will cover all aspects of ridden showing classes and will educate people on how to prepare their horses for the show ring in the weeks prior to the show, what is expected on the day, what to wear, how to present your horse for the In-Hand section of the class and what the judge is looking for in terms of conformation. It will also include a section on linear profiling.

HSI Inspections

*Mare Inspections - HSI had added an additional date to the schedule for spring inspections - Cavan Equestrian Centre on 3rd May. Closing date for applications is Friday 3rd March 2017.
